Aromatic Avatar

INTRODUCTION

SCULPTURE, AROMATIC, HAND MADE, , WEARABLE

This project is a two part series in which I created wearable aromatic pieces for an imaginary avatar. My avatar is a queen or princess that represents life and death and the nature of mystery and longing.

PROTECTIVE FACE MASK

 This protective face mask is inspired by mystery and longing. Made entirely with found objects, this mask is composed of wire, yarn, fabric straps, and mesh fabric for the interior part of the face mask. The mask was sprayed with a water infusion of blueberry and lime. To make this infusion I boiled blueberries in water and added lime powder. Then I strained the remaining liquid and added a little bit of heavy floral essential oil to the infusion. I sprayed this onto the mask. This scent was inspired by the sweet nature of life and death.

HEADPIECE

Building off of my protective face mask I created a headpiece/crown to fulfill my avatar, which ultimately becomes a princess. I took inspiration from ancient Egyptian princesses to construct my crown. It's royal, magestic, and beautiful. I sprayed the same blueberry-lime infusion on this to maintain a consistent scent portait, while it naturally dyed the white fabric with a tint of purple. This piece is made entirely from found objects inclluding wire, yarn, mesh fabric and yarn and sequins.
